This Week's Menu 3/13

(Yeah! I got a Bountiful Basket this week!!)

Spring is slowly making it's way back to my neighborhood. We have had several days of warm (50ish), sunny weather. Dear Hubby cleaned out the gas grill and added new ceramic briquettes, yesterday. I'm hoping the weather holds, so that we can start grilling, again.  I'm also excited to get ripe tomatoes in my basket this week. Tomatoes are a precious commodity right now, because of the freezing weather in Mexico that ruined 80% of their produce crops. In fact, I was thrilled for everything in this weeks basket. This week will also be clean out the freezer and use up the leftover's in the fridge week, because I should be the proud new owner of an energy efficient, blissfully quiet, non produce freezing refrigerator by the end of the week ( I'll blog more about that later.)!  This week we will be eating:

BBQ Chicken
Beans, Bacon, and Potatoes
Green Salad
Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake

Eating At A Fundraiser For Dear Daughter's Debate Club

BBQ Chicken Sandwiches
Homemade Buns
Strawberries and Whipped Cream

Fish Sticks
Tater Tots
Frozen Corn

Pork Carnitas (new Crock Pot recipe I'm going to try)
Flour Tortillas
Lettuce and Tomatoes

Leftover Night

Baked Pasta
Easy Breadsticks
Steamed Cauliflower

Has anyone else noticed rising produce prices in your area?

  1. soo jealous of your bountiful baskets! I don't even pay attention to the produce prices...can't bear to see how much I'm paying, because I'm going to buy it anyway. Now that I'm buying mostly organic produce, there is only one store that carries organic, so price comparison shopping is not an option. Can't wait for garden season, so my grocery bill will go down!

  2. prices are definitely going up! Bananas have gone up .10 per pound in the past couple weeks ouch! So far it's only on non-organic produce though-organic prices have stayed the same so far whew!

  3. Your menu looks great. I am also jealous of the bountiful basket.

Food prices are definitely rising *very* quickly.

  4. The produce prices have gotten ridiculous!! I have been going without tomatoes because I just can't bring myself to pay that price. I am interested in your Pork Carnitas recipe. Sounds delish. Keep me posted on how it turns out!!

  5. Right this minute I am starving and everything in your week's menu sounds so delicious. I try not to look at the produce prices too closely and just get what I need for a few meals. Will have to go check out the prices at the farmers' market soon.

  6. Great menu! As for the price of fruits and vegetables, I saw an article in the newspaper this morning from the Associated Press out of Washington that stated the prices of produce went up 3.9% last month! That is the biggest rise since November of 1974. Also the article expects the price of produce to continue to go up! Thank goodness for gardens!
