Meal Planning

I was e mailed a great article a few days ago, and I thought I'd share it with all my bloggy friends! This article includes simple no nonsense ways to plan a menu. Since, I must confess, that it is only recently that I have jumped on the plan a menu bandwagon, I found the ideas in this article helpful. Planning a menu around weekly sales, pantry staples, and freezer inventory is one of the best ways to keep your budget in check. Serving home cooked meals is also far healthier and cheaper that eating take out or fast food! Anyhow, go check this article:

I'd love to hear from all of you!!!!!! What tactics do you use to plan your menus and save money on groceries?

  1. I have found that menu planning helps sooo much when it comes to incorporating sales and items I have stockpiled and in the freezer.

Planning meals out forces me to keep track of what we have and what needs to be used! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I have never been successful at getting myself to menu plan in advance...too lazy! I do keep a running inventory in my head of what's in the fridge. does that count? love your blog, TWM, and look forward to learning how the menu planning goes for you.

  3. That was a good article. I already do #10, keep cooked hamburger patties frozen for a quick meal on nights when we are rushed.

As for menu planning, I have a thirty year habit of planning my menu and grocery list from the ads on Wednesday night, buying groceries on Thursday night, cooking all weekend for the next week, and then DH refuses to follow the menu during the week! Ha! This week I bought pork spare ribs at $1.99 a pound and plan to cook them Saturday. I never buy ribs, but they were on sale and the family will love them!

The best part about menu planning is knowing what you are having for dinner that night. Sometimes I look forward to dinner all day long:-) Thank you, TWM! Love your blog.

  5. Unfortunately, I am kind of a fly by the seat of my pants kinda cook so I go to the store a few times a week and pick up whatever's on sale or just sounds good. Depends on what I'm craving like meat loaf or stuffed chicken breasts or soup or stew. Okay, now I'm hungry! =D
